Spider-Man: No Way Home has quickly made its mark as the first true COVID-19 blockbuster. Following the Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend, it has climbed the box office charts and appears poised to continue its run. Are records in sight?

No Way Home has jumped up to #4 on the list of the top films ranked by all-time domestic gross. It’s the first movie to enter the list since Avengers: Endgame in 2019.

No Way Home is more than $50 million behind Avatar. It made $25 million during the long holiday weekend, meaning James Cameron’s 3D space adventure is not at all out of reach.

Superhero films have dominated the box office over the past several years. Spider-Man: No Way Home is already the second-best earner among superhero films. The top-ranked non-Marvel movie is Incredibles 2, which grossed $608.6 million.

The picture changes some when we look at domestic ticket sales instead of gross. This metric isn’t perfect, but generally does a better job of capturing the relative popularity of films over time.

No Way Home is #4 and less than 2 million tickets behind The Avengers and Black Panther. Endgame looks out of reach.

No Way Home is climbing toughest box office chart to crack, the one that measures All-Time Domestic Ticket Sales. The film currently sits at #34, sandwiched between Black Panther and The Lion King. It has a lot of room to grow but will have to maintain its popularity over another month at least to hit the top ten.

Note that my numbers on ticket sales may differ slightly than those found elsewhere, including Wikipedia. All ticket sale numbers are estimates. Mine are compiled from research into a large number of secondary and primary sources.
